Brunswick, Ga.- The College of Coastal Georgia women's volleyball team picked up a pair of victories here Saturday afternoon in a Sun Conference tri-match to complete a sweep of their three matches this week at Howard Coffin Gym.
The Mariners defeated Johnson & Wales 3-0 before then later knocking off Florida Memorial by 3-0 as well.
On Wednesday, Coastal Georgia defeated Warner 3-2 in the season's first home game to record its first victory in the Sun. The Mariners lost their first-ever league game 3-2 at Webber International on Sept. 20.
Coastal Georgia is now 4-7 overall and 3-1 in conference with the three consecutive home wins this week.
Against JWU, which is 3-11 and 0-5, the Mariners won by scores of 25-19,25-14, 25-18.
The Mariners hit a whopping .408 in the contest with 38 kills and just seven errors in 76 attacks. Addie Pedraza led the attack with 10 kills while Kyra White and Ehize Omoghibo followed with eight each.
Ashley Kot recorded 25 assists over the three sets.
The Wildcats could muster just 18 kills in 68 swings while committing 10 errors and hitting only .118 for the match.
Savannah Swenson led the visitors with six kills.
In its second match of the day, the Mariners again needed just the minimum number of sets to turn back Florida Memorial, which defeated Johnson & Wales in the middle match of the afternoon by a 3-0 count.
Coastal Georgia won the three sets against the Lions by 25-20, 25-14, 25-18.
The loss dropped FMU to 3-7 and 1-3 in league play.
The Mariners mounted another efficient offensive assault as they hit .304 for the match with 39 kills and 11 errors in 92 attacks.
Pedraza again led a balanced attack with 13 kills and three errors in 23 attempts to hit. 435 for the match. Omoghibo added nine kills, White tallied seven and Azure Werner terminated four shots.
Kott assisted on all but eight of Coastal Georgia's kills as she finished with 31 assists.
While recording 36 digs, the Mariners were balanced defensively as Pedraza and Bunge both finished with eight digs while Kott and Green both recorded six each.
Coastal Georgia collected eight total blocks at the net while recording 16 block assists in the three sets. Omoghibo had five while White and Downey had four apiece.
The Mariners checked the Lions to just 22 kills in 80 swings. Florida Memorial committed 21 errors and would finish hitting .013 for the match. Yulianna Charris led the team with seven kills.
If there was a negative for the Mariners, it was their 12 service errors. They had six aces with White and Downey serving up two apiece.
Coastal Georgia is off until next Saturday when it travels to West Palm Beach, Fla., to take on host Keiser and Ave Maria in another league tri-match.
The Mariners' next home match is Oct. 18 against Southeastern.
