Mobile, Ala. – The College of Coastal Georgia men's tennis team saw its season come to a sudden close Tuesday with a 6-3 loss to Asbury (Ky.) in the first round of the NAIA Men's Tennis National Championship.

Playing at the Mobile Tennis Center, the Mariners lost two of the three doubles matches to go into singles play down 2-1 overall. In singles, the Eagles proceeded to win four of the six matches to take the match.

Coastal Georgia was the No. 13 seed for the tournament and was ranked No. 14 in the country coming into the national championship. Asbury, which was receiving votes for the national Top 25, was the 20th seed in the 24-team bracket.

The Mariners finish their season 13-7 overall. The Eagles improve to 17-1 and will face No. 4 seed Northwestern Ohio in the second round on Wednesday.

For Coastal Georgia, the No. 3 doubles tandem of Josh Banks and Ben Dolan won their match 8-5 to get the Mariners on the board after the three doubles matches.

However, the Mariners could only muster victories at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots in the six singles matches. Kenta Naka won his match at No. 3 by 6-2, 6-2 and Dolan won his match at No. 4 by 6-3, 6-2.

The match was the final one in a Coastal Georgia uniform for seniors Rhan Burton and Banks.
