Mobile, Ala. - The College of Coastal Georgia men's tennis team breezed to a 5-2 victory Thursday over Martin Methodist in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference tournament at the Mobile Tennis Center.
The win was the 12th in a row for the No. 14 Mariners who are now 13-5 for the season. Coastal Georgia entered the tournament as the No. 3 seed while Martin Methodist was the sixth seed.
The Mariners won two of three doubles matches for a 2-1 advantage going to singles where they won three of the four matches that finished to reach the five necessary points for the victory.
Coastal Georgia will play second-seeded Mobile Friday at noon in the semifinals. Mobile won 9-0 over Bethel on Thursday.
This will be the fifth straight appearance for the Mariners in the tournament semifinals. They have never reached the finals.
