Montgomery, Ala. – The College of Coastal Georgia moved into second place Tuesday after the second round of the SSAC Men's Golf Championship here at Arrowhead Country Club.

Getting a pair of under-par scores from Lauri Hacklin and Paxton Shuman, the No. 17-ranked Mariners carded a 2-over 286 score to jump from third to second in the team standings at 578 through the first 36 holes of the 54-hole event.

The Mariners, however, remain well back of No. 3 Dalton State which has a 556 team score and has command of the tournament with the final 18 holes coming up on Wednesday. The Roadrunners shot a second-straight 278 score to remain on top of the leaderboard.

The Mariners will be looking to hold off Faulkner in the third round. The Eagles stand at 579 and are just a stroke back of Coastal Georgia with 18 holes to go. Faulkner shot 290 in Monday's opening round while the Mariners posted a 292, but the teams switched places Tuesday after the Mariners finished three shots better than Faulkner which carded a 289 in the second round.

Loyola and William Carey also have a chance to make a run at the runner-up spot as the Wolfpack are currently fourth at 584 with the Crusaders rounding out the top five at 589.

Dalton State also currently owns the top two spots on the individual leaderboard as P.J. Fields leads the field at 7-under for the championship. He shot a 68 on the par-71 course in the opening round to grab a share of the lead before firing a 67 in round two to take the outright lead.

Fields holds a three-shot cushion over teammate S.M. Lee who also shot 68 in round one before shooting a 70 on Tuesday. Lee is 4-under through 36 holes and trails Shields by three shots.

Coastal Georgia's Shuman will have a chance to battle for the top spot Wednesday in the final round. Shuman carded a round of 70 for the second consecutive day and is 2-under for the tournament, leaving him five shots behind the leader going into the closing 18.

Also for Coastal Georgia, Hacklin moved into the top-10 in the individual standings after firing a 69 in Tuesday's round. Hacklin is 3-over for the tournament after shooting a 76 in the first round.

Coastal Georgia's Seth Sanders is currently 12th at 4-over with rounds of 74 and 72.

Meantime, Coastal Georgia's Taylor Guilbeau and Harrison Stafford are both tied for 21st at 8-over. Guilbeau has posted scores of 73 and 77 while Stafford has shot a pair of 75s.
