McKenzie, Tenn. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team suffered a 91-49 loss to No. 18 Bethel here Thursday night in its first game since the Christmas break.

The Mariners, who dressed just eight players for the second straight game, fell to 4-8 overall and 1-2 in the Southern States Athletic Conference.

Bethel, the preseason favorite to win the league a second straight season, improved to 7-6 and 3-0 in the SSAC with the win.

The Mariners trailed the Lady Wildcats 52-32 at halftime and scored just 17 points in the second half.

Kaci Palo led the Mariners in defeat with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting from three-point territory. She scored all of her points in the first half.

Ashlee Francis added 14 points for the Mariners. Kennedy Williams led the team with six rebounds.

Coastal Georgia shot just 29.8 percent (17-57) from the field for the game.

Bethel placed four players in double figures including Brandi Goodman who led all scorers with 23 points. Morgan Martin followed closely with 22 points.

Mariah McKenty led the home team with 10 rebounds.

Bethel finished shooting 51.4 percent (38-74) from the field, scoring 59 points in the paint.

The Lady Wildcats finished with 25 assists for the game and had 47 rebounds to just 27 by the Mariners.

Coastal Georgia will play at Martin Methodist on Saturday.
