Montgomery, Ala. – The College of Coastal Georgia women's basketball team saw its season come to an end Wednesday afternoon with a 65-49 loss to Brenau in the opening round of the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Mariners finish their season 11-18. They were the No. 9-seed for the league tournament being played at the Cramton Bowl Multiplex.

The Golden Tigers improved to 16-13 with the win and now advance to play top-seeded Bethel in Thursday's quarterfinals. Brenau is the No. 8-seed for this week's tournament.

Coastal Georgia and Brenau split their two regular-season matchups with both teams winning on their home court.

But with only five players available for the tournament game, the Mariners couldn't keep pace with the Tigers who led from the opening jump and built a 24-point cushion late in the game before the Mariners trimmed their deficit to the final margin.

The game was decided in the third quarter when the Golden Tigers used an 11-0 run in the first three minutes of the second half to extend their 26-18 halftime lead to 19 points.

Brenau would finish the quarter outscoring the Mariners 24-13 for a 50-31 cushion going into the final 10 minutes.

In defeat, Coastal Georgia got 15 points from Anissa Toumi, 14 from Schyler Miller and 10 apiece from Janne Tullius and Breanna Walker.

Walker just missed a double-double as she finished with a team-best nine rebounds.

Brenau had three players reach twin numbers in scoring. Autumn Dodson led all scorers with 20 points. Briah Woods pulled down seven rebounds to lead a balanced effort on the backboards by the Golden Tigers.
